Microsoft Excel protection offers several types of passwords including password to open and modify a document and password to unprotect or protect worksheet/workbook. You have to remember so many passwords if you set this passwords and it is very usual that you forget or lost some of these passwords even complete. Now you need Excel Password Refixer to help. OS Support: Windows NT4/2000/2003/2008/XP/Vista/7, Windows 8 and Windows 2012.
Hardware Requirements: 50 MB or more; 256 MB or above.
Firstly, of course install Excel Password Refixer and start it. Click the “Open” button (or select the "File | Open File" menu item) on the top and browse for the password protected MS Excel file as shown in the figure.
Select the locked Excel file.
Select one of the 4 password attack types (Brute-force Attack, Mask Attack, Dictionary Attack and Smart Attack) and make the attack settings if needed.
Then press the “Start” and wait for the recovering for a few seconds.
Once the password is successfully recovered, a dialog box will pop up to inform you of it. Then you can click the “Copy” button and paste the password to open your lost/forgotten password MS Excel document.
Brute-Force Attack: This attack will try all possible password combinations to recover lost Excel password. Best if you know nothing about the lost/forgotten password. You can just click the “Start” button if using this type of attack.
Mask Attack: Better using this type to recover your forgotten Excel passwords if you can remember your password partially. If you choose Mask Attack, you should offer some password symbols which you can remember. A Password Mask must be defined to use Mask Attack. And it will reduce password recovery time.
Dictionary Attack: Recover lost Excel password by trying the password combinations in the built-in dictionary. You can also create your own dictionary using various languages. Best if you use regular words or phrases for password. The picture below is the instruction of dictionary attack.
Simply select the desired dictionary file. In addition, you can select an option "Smart mutations" or "Try all possible upper/lower case combinations".
Range: Setting the range options you can be sure about the lost/forgotten password of the encrypted MS Excel data file will shorten the recovery time and increase attack success rate.
Length: The minimum and maximum possible length for the password can be set as your will.
