Before you can connect or accept the incoming remote connection, you first need to turn on Remote Desktop in Windows 10, because it is turned off by default.<\/p>\n<h2>How to turn on or off Remote Desktop in Windows 10<\/h2>\n<p>There are at least three options to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/turn-on-off-remote-desktop-in-windows-10\">turn on\/off Remote Desktop on Windows 10<\/a>, among which it should be the most straightforward way via <strong>System Properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Step 1: Press <strong>Win + X<\/strong> to bring up the <strong>Quick Access Menu<\/strong> and then select <strong>System<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"262\" height=\"401\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-872\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/system.jpg\" alt=\"System\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/system.jpg 262w, https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/system-196x300.jpg 196w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alternative: You also can right click on <strong>This PC<\/strong> and select Properties.<\/p>\n<p>Step 2: After the <strong>System<\/strong> window opens, click on the <strong>Remote settings<\/strong> link on the left-side pane.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"744\" height=\"473\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-873\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/remote-settings.jpg\" alt=\"Remote settings\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/remote-settings.jpg 744w, https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/remote-settings-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Step 3: In the <strong>System Properties<\/strong> dialog with <strong>Remote<\/strong> tab selected, you can see the <em><strong>Don\u2019t allow remote connections to this computer<\/strong> <\/em>is selected by default, which means Remote Desktop is turned off on this Windows 10 \u2013 based computer. In order to turn on Remote Desktop choose the option <em><strong>Allow remote connections to this computer <\/strong><\/em>and for the more secure connection you are recommended to choose the <em><strong>Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication<\/strong><\/em>. If prompted with the warning dialog saying <strong><em>This computer is set up to go to sleep or hibernation when not in use<\/em><\/strong>, just click <strong>OK<\/strong>. Finally, click <strong>OK<\/strong> twice to save the settings.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have turned on Remote Desktop, Windows 10 will automatically open the required and necessary ports in Windows Firewall if you&#8217;ve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/turn-on-off-windows-firewall-in-windows-10\/\">turned on Windows Firewall in Windows 10<\/a>, to listen and accept any incoming Remote Desktop connections.<\/p>\n<p>Tips: Sometimes it should be practical to turn on Remote Desktop; however, sometimes it may open a door for hackers and may be a risk for your privacy security.
