Now, this post will show you how to increase hard disk space in the VMware virtual machine. Two ways are for your choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"#way1\">Way 1: Increase hard disk space from Virtual Machine Settings<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#way2\">Way 2: Increase hard disk space in VMware using Command Prompt<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"way1\">Way 1: Increase hard disk space from Virtual Machine Settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 1: Launch VMware and open the target virtual machine, but don\u2019t power on this virtual machine. Keep this virtual machine powered off, as shown in the figure below. Right-click on this installation folder while holding down the Shift key on your keyboard, then select <strong>Open command window here<\/strong> from the context menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"618\" height=\"304\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/choose-open-command-window-here.png\" alt=\"choose Open command window here\" class=\"wp-image-11093\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/choose-open-command-window-here.png 618w, https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/choose-open-command-window-here-300x148.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tips: If you have no idea where your VMware is installed, just right-click the desktop icon of the VMware software, then select <strong>Properties<\/strong> to view the installation location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 4: After the Command Prompt opens, type the following command and press <strong>Enter<\/strong> key to increase your virtual machine&#8217;s hard disk space. When the Grow process reaches 100%, the disk expansion is completed successfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -x 80Gb &#8220;E:\\old windows 10\\Windows 10 x64.vmdk&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"677\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/disk-expansion-completed.png\" alt=\"disk expansion completed\" class=\"wp-image-11095\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/disk-expansion-completed.png 677w, https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/disk-expansion-completed-300x123.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 677px) 100vw, 677px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to do next after increasing VMware disk space?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the virtual disk size has been expanded, this space needs to be allocated to the disk of the virtual machine. Because the added space is not immediately available to the virtual machine. To make the added space available, it must be allocated to a virtual disk using the disk management tool. Here&#8217;s how to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 1: Power on the VMware, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isumsoft.com\/it\/6-ways-to-open-disk-management-in-windows-10\/\">open Disk Management<\/a> in VMware, you will see the &#8220;unallocated space&#8221; that I just created behind the C drive. Click <strong>Action<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Rescan Disks<\/strong>. Then you can see the unallocated space is successfully assigned to the virtual disk.
