USB Device Can't be Recognized by Computer, How to Solve

Computer can not recognize usb device, which means the device can not be used in the computer. If you want computer recognize and accept your usb driver, just follow this article, it will show you how fix this issue.

Solution 1: Uninstall the Universal Serial Bus controllers

When you plug usb drive into computer, It prompts USB device not recognized message that time you may try to plug it into another computer or usb port. After trying on, it can be detected by another computer, but dosen't work with you computer. It's possible something gets wrong with you computer hardware.

To solve problem, you can uninstall the USB controllers, and then reconnect your USB device.

Step 1: Open Device Manager.

Locate to Desktop, press Win + X,then select Device Manager for result list. (For Windows 8/10)


Or open Run (Windows Logo + R) and type devmgmt.msc and click OK. (Apply to windows 7/8/10)


Step 2: Click on Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand, then right-click to Uninstall and remove Unknown USB device (Port reset failed) with yellow sign.


Step 3: Remove USB drive and plug it again, right-click to select Scan for hardware changes. This moment computer is trying to detect the new hardware.


Step 4: If the USB device still can't recognized, go to re-uninstall all USB controller. To do that by right-clicking on each items to select Uninstall to remove it.


Step 5: Restart computer. After the computer starts, navigate to expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers.

Step 6: Then clean Allow computer to turn off this device to save power checkbox for all USB Root Hub.

To do that: Right-click on USB Root Hub, and click  Properties. Click on the Power Management tab and then  uncheck Allow computer to turn off this device to save power box.


If computer still couldn't detect USB device, try to disable usb selective suspend settings.

Solution 2: Disable USB Selective Suspend Settings

Steps to disable the USB selective suspend settings on windows.

Step 1: Go from Start Menu > Control Panel, in upper right corner of Control Panel Window, type in Power Options to search box. Click Power Options from results.


Or just right click on battery iconand select Power Option. ( Apply to laptop and Microsoft Surface tablet)


Step 2: Next click Change Power Settings enter to Edit Plan Settings Window, and then click Change Advanced settings.


Step 3: In Advanced settings, go to find USB Settings, locate to USB selective suspend setting, then set Settings as Disable.


That's all, click Apply to save this change, then click Ok. Your USB should be recognized by computer this time.
