How to Delete iCloud Account and iCloud Backup

If you want to giving away or selling your iOS device, you may want to remove iCloud account and iCloud backups. If you want to change iCould Account to use another iCloud account for share files or other things, how do you make sure you can remove iCloud account without data loss? This tutorial will show you how to do that.

Part 1: How to Delete iCloud Account

Before you delete anything, it is important to backup your device in case something goes wrong. You can choose to back up your device with iTunes. Here let's see how to remove iCloud account with or without data loss.

Step 1: Go to Setting > iCloud, then scroll down and tap on Sign out.

Step 2: Read the warning message and tap Sign Out.


Step 3: Read the warning message, then tap Delete from iPhone.

Step 4: Read the warning message and tap the Keep on My iPhone option.

Note: If you don't want to keep all iCloud Safari data, calendars, reminders and contacts on your device, select Delete from My iPhone.

Step 5: If prompted, enter your Apple ID password. When iCloud account is removed you can Sign in with a new Apple ID.


Part 2: How to Delete iCloud Backups

Delete iCloud backups can help you free up iCloud storage. There are a few options to delete iCloud Backups.

Option 1: Delete Backups and Turn off Backup in Settings.

Step 1: Go to Setting > iCloud > Storage.

Step 2:Tap Manage Storage.

Step 3: Tap Photos section. You can Disable and Delete all photos and videos from iCloud Photo Library.

Step 4: Tap Backups section. You can turn off backup for specific apps, then tap Turn Off & Delete to delete the backup data from iCloud.

Option 2: Delete iCloud Backup in iCloud app.

Use following steps, you can easily delete iCloud backup for your device.

To delete backups on Mac:

Step 1: Go to Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.

Step 2: Click Manage and select Backups. Select one of the device backups, then click Delete. If you want to turn off Backup and remove all backups for that device from iCloud, choose Delete when you're asked to confirm.

To delete backups on Windows:

Step 1: Open iCloud for Windows.

Step 2: Click Storage. Select Backup from the items listed.

Step 3: Select one of the device backups, then click Delete. Choose Delete when you're asked to confirm. When you delete a backup, it also turns off backup of your device.

Option 3: Delete backup in

If you are using a computer that haven't installed iCloud app yet, you can login to the iCloud website to delete iCoud backups.

Step 1: Go to

Step 3: Click Settings, then select items that you want to delete.

Click Photos app, select items that you want to delete. Click Delete files, then click Delete.

2. Delete files from the iCloud Drive app.

Click the iCloud Drive app, select the files that you want to delete, then click Delete files.

iCloud backups are available for 180 days after you disable or stop using iCloud Backup.
