How to Unlock a BitLocker Encryption USB Drive without Password

Forgot BitLocker Encryption password is a frustrating experience. If you have no idea to unlock your locked USB drive, read on. Here we introduce how to gain access to a locked flash drive by using recovery key. In addition, we will show you how to reset the BitLocker Encryption password and turn off BitLocker via CMD.

Way 1: Unlock Bitlocker-encryption drive using recovery key

If you forgot BitLocker-encryption password, you can use recovery key to get into your BitLocker-protected USB drive. Here's how:

Step 1: Insert USB stick into a USB port on your PC. Click the Unlock drive message, when it pop-ups.

Step 2: Click More Option to reveal Enter recovery key link.

Step 3: After clicking Enter recovery key link, enter recovery key you previously saved.

Tip: You can find your recovery key in the text file or Microsoft Account you have saved to.

Step 4: Once your recovery key has been accepted, go to This PC > Removable disk, right-click on it, select Manage BitLocker.

Step 5: In BitLocker Drive Encryption window, select Change password link.

Step 6: Then click Reset a forgotten password option to create a new password.

Step 7: Enter new password and make sure that you don't forget it again. Then click Finish after completing.

Way 2: Unlock BitLocker-encryption Drive via Command Prompt

Step 1: Run Command Prompt as administrator.

Press Windows logo key, type cmd in Search box, then right click on Command Prompt in the result, and then select Run as administrator.

Step 2: Type command the following command, then press Enter run it.

manage-bde –unlock <USB drive letter> -RecoveryPassword <recovery key>

Step 3: To turn off BitLocker Encryption: run manage-bde -off <USB drive letter> command.
