How to Cancel Check Disk (Chkdsk.exe) Run at Startup

When you run the Check Disk to check a drive for errors, Windows NT would ask if you want to schedule CHKDSK run at the next time your computer restarted. If you've scheduled disk check, but later you changed your mind not to run Chkdsk.exe tool at the next startup, how to do?

This article will show you how to cancel disk checking tool run at the next time you start your computer.

To Prevent Check Disk (Chkdsk) Running at Startup via Registry Editor

To prevent Check Disk running at the next startup, you must edit the corresponding registry via Registry Editor.

Step 1: Open the Registry Editor.

Press Win + R key, then type in regedit, click OK to open Registry Editor.

Tip: If it prompted by UAC, click Yes.

Click Yes to run Regedit

Step 2: Then navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

In the right pane, right click on BootExecute and select Modify to change its value data.

Step 3: Change the BootExecute value data as: autocheck autochk *

To disable chkdsk run at startup

Step 4: When finished, close registry Editor.
