How to Unlock a Locked/Disabled Apple ID with 2FA Enabled

If you enter your password incorrectly too many times, your Apple ID automatically locks to protect your security and you can't sign in to any Apple services. If you happen to get stuck onto that situation, read this tutorial to learn how to unlock your locked Apple ID account.


Option 1: Unlock a Locked Apple ID on iPhone/iPad

If you use two-factor authentication, you need a trusted device or trusted phone number to unlock your Apple IDs. When see alert says Apple ID has been locked for security reasons, use these steps to verify your identity, then reset password to unlock your account.

Unlock your Apple ID

Step 1: Tap on Unlock Account.

Step 2: Enter your trusted phone number, then tap Next on the upper-right corner.

Step 3: Enter the verification code which was sent to your trusted phone number.

Step 4: To unlock your account, enter Apple ID password. If you don't remember it, tap Forgot Password.

Step 5: Enter passcode.

Step 6: You can reset new password.

After done, you can sign in with your Apple ID and its new password.

Option 2: Unlock an Apple ID Account Using 2FA on Website

When you see an alert says "you can't sign in with Apple ID your account was disabled for security reasons." You can enable your account by reset your password in iforgot.apple.com.

Step 1: Go to iforgot website.

Step 2: Enter your Apple ID account. Click Continue to move on.

Step 3: Enter your trusted phone number. Then enter the verification code sent to your trusted phone number.

Step 4: Enter your exist password to ready unlock account. If you don't remember it click Forgot Password.

Step 5: Click Continue to begin the account recovery process. 

Apple ID Account recovery

Account recovery is an automatic process designed to get you back in to your account, while denying access to your account. Account recovery might take a few days. You can try to check the status of your request at iforgot.apple.com again the next day.

Regain access to your account

When your account is ready for recovery, you’ll get a notification from your phone number or email address with instructions for regaining access to your account.

Step 1: Go to iforgot.apple.com, Enter your Apple ID.

Step 2: Confirm the phone number you provided for account recovery.

After you confirm your phone number, Apple will send you an Account Recovery code by text or phone call.

Step 3: Enter the account recovery code in the field provided and click Continue.

After you correctly enter the recovery code, you can choose a new password, verify your trusted phone number, and sign in normally.
